about this item
This pamphlet features Morgan's poem 'Seven Decades', published for
the first time, reflecting on his life to date. This page-proof features
handwritten corrections by Morgan.
"['Seven Decades'] casts a cool eye over his life as poet, professor
and polyglot. Vignettes of a bookish childhood… and his wartime
youth as a repressed homosexual… evoke a life in which literature
has served as an emotional refuge as well as a dominant agent of personal
change."
Felt-tipped Hosannas also includes an outline biography, 'Chronology
of a working life', along with tributes to Morgan by Tom Leonard, Liz
Lochhead, Iain Crichton Smith et al.
The frontispiece features a drawing
of Morgan by Alasdair Gray, in which he is reading The Apple Ghost by
John Glenday.
