Emergent Poems by Edwin Morgan

More about this item

The publication is a single sheet, folded to 24 x 16 cm. It includes seven 'emergent poems', two of which are included in The Second Life (Edinburgh University Press, 1968).

Edwin Morgan has written on the back cover:

"the texts of my emergent poems are taken from the following works
message clear from st john chapter 11
dialeck piece from burns to a mouse
plea from brecht von der kindesmörderin marie farrar
seven headlines from rimbaud une saison en enfer
nightmare from dante inferno
manifesto from the communist manifesto"

The lines from Brecht, Rimbaud and Dante are in the original German, French and Italian respectively, while that from the Communist Manifesto is in Russian (though using the Roman alphabet); all the poems which emerge are in English.

Hansjörg Mayer (1943-) is a German artist, graphic designer and publisher who has lived in London since the 1960s. His Futura series also included work by Ian Hamilton Finlay.
