Edwin Morgan's 'Message Clear' is printed on the front cover of the December 1968 issue of The South African Outlook.

According to The Second Life (Edinburgh University Press, 1968), the poem was written on 16 August 1965. First published in the Times Literary Supplement, 13 January 1966, it was reprinted in newspapers in West Germany and the USA, before its appearance here.

The Archive holds only the cover page. On the reverse the issue's contents are listed: they include 'The Theology of Migrant Labour' by Desmond Tutu.

The Outlook describes itself as

"an independent journal; dealing with missionary and racial affairs which uninterruptedly since 1870 has sought to place its readers in possession of facts and opinion which bear upon the lives of all of the people of the sub-continent".
