Unkown is best by Edwin Morgan

More about this item

Ten years on from Felt-tipped Hosannas, Unknown is Best celebrates Morgan's 80th birthday. It opens with a new poem by him, 'At Eighty' (the book's title is taken from a line in it), and includes poems and letters in tribute to Morgan, including Ron Butlin's 'Absinthe with Eddie', Gerry Cambridge's 'Thirteen Ways of Looking at Edwin Morgan', and Andrew Greig's 'Watch the: for the man with the lively ties'.

"On Tuesday 28 March 2000 Edwin Morgan gave a reading to 4th and 5th year pupils at Dunoon Grammar School. He travelled by train from Glasgow to Gourock and by ferry (Saturn, of course) to Dunoon. (…) On the way back the train passed a warehouse near Hillington with the sign SCOTTISH GALVANISERS LTD on it. 'That's what we need,' he said. Except that we've got one. Unlimited."

Robyn Marsack and Hamish Whyte, on the back cover.
